In line with Anantara’s philosophy that environmental responsibility begins at home, Anantara Tangalle is collaborating with the International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN) to implement methods to protect and conserve globally threatened marine turtles.

Out of the seven species of marine turtles recorded around the world, five visit the shores of Sri Lanka for the purpose of reproducing. The milestone project will enhance the conservation of marine turtles that nest on the resort beach and will extend to over 100 km of surrounding coastline. A conducive, healthy coastal habitat was re-created within the resort premises by improving the physical landscape with environmentally acceptable interventions that will also attract native coastal species. The project aims to raise awareness of marine turtle conservation, with the construction of an ecological education and visitor centre nearby.
